Sean’s Story

Hear from Sean Munro as he talks about his Hodgkins Lymphoma diagnosis.

Sean’s Story
Cancer can be such an easy thing to miss, and for me, I almost did – I was ready to get on the plane, and if my parents hadn’t persisted I get the lump checked out, I definitely would have, without giving it a second thought.

Seans’s story

The first sign I had for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was recurring drenching night sweats which would last a few weeks as well as becoming very tired. I was never the kind of person to nap but now all of a sudden I was napping at least once or twice a day!

I went to the GP twice, once in March 2025 and again a year later in February 2026, for which both times I was sent for blood tests – and both times they came back almost completely normal, warranting no concern.

It wasn’t until a couple days before I was meant to set out on 6 months of travelling, did I get referred for further tests, after I found a lump in my neck, only a couple weeks after I had been told everything was fine from my blood test.

Cancer can be such an easy thing to miss, and for me, I almost did – I was ready to get on the plane, and if my parents hadn’t persisted I get the lump checked out, I definitely would have, without giving it a second thought.

Since then, I have started a 12 round regimen of chemo. It has been tough – I’ve spent a few days in hospital recovering from infections, spent hours on a chair with an infusion. I have since had to cut my hair as it began to fall out.

But, despite everything, I have tried to stay positive. Fitness was always a big part of my life and so I’ve tried keeping my running and exercise up – trying to run whenever I can and feel comfortable. Since I am now unable to go the gym I have moved my workouts to the garden. Since my diagnosis, I have shared my journey on TikTok and have received the most amazing messages and connected with some brilliant people who also are sharing their journeys.
