NIKODEM’s story

Our son, Nikodem, is 7 years old and has shown extraordinary courage over the past two years. After being diagnosed with Leukaemia on June 1st 2024, Nikodem had been receiving treatment at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

His journey has been challenging, involving chemotherapy, radiotherapy, major surgery, and a bone marrow transplant. Throughout it all, Nikodem has faced every obstacle with remarkable strength and determination. One of the most special moments in his journey was receiving a bone marrow transplant from his younger brother, Damian, whose selfless donation gave him the greatest gift imaginable – a second chance at life.

After spending many months in hospital, often isolated from friends and missing out on the everyday experiences of childhood, Nikodem is now looking forward with optimism and confidence. While his treatment journey continues, he is back to enjoying life, setting new goals, embracing new adventures, and proving that challenges do not have to define the future.

That is why this years Tour de 4  means so much to us. On 6 September, Nikodem and Damian will cycle the 1 km route together, with our family proudly accompanying them. For Nikodem, this is an exciting new goal and a chance to celebrate how far he has come. For Damian, a huge sports fan and his brother’s biggest supporter, it is another opportunity to stand proudly by Nikodem’s side.

Most importantly, this event is about hope. It is about raising awareness, supporting research into kinder and safer treatments for children with cancer, and helping to create a future where more children can not only survive cancer, but thrive after it.

We are Team Brave. We can’t wait to be part of this inspiring event and celebrate alongside so many other families.
