Interview Study Recruitment: Help Improve Access to Stem Cell Transplant Treatment

Have you been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) or Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)?

Are you a caregiver or healthcare professional supporting someone with AML or MDS?

Cure Leukaemia are supporting a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and NHS Blood and Transplant, who are currently recruiting participants for an interview study exploring access to the stem cell transplant (SCT) treatment—especially those from underserved communities. Your experiences could help shape future NHS policy and improve equity in care.

The study focuses on the decision-making process around SCT for AML/MDS patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, particularly keen to hear from individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds, whose voices are often underrepresented in research.

What is the study about?

We want to understand the experience of caregivers who are supporting an AML or MDS patient through their diagnosis and treatment.

Who is eligible?

An individual, aged 18 or above who has an active role in supporting an AML or MDS patient through their treatment

What is involved?

  • Translators and interpreters will be provided, if required
  • Talking to a researcher about your experiences online, by phone, or face-to-face
  • Taking part will not affect your treatment and care or the person you care for
  • A £25 shopping voucher will be offered to participants as a thank you

What happens after?

After the study, the researchers will work together with patient groups and professionals to identify how access to SCT could be improved.

💬 Interviews are confidential, flexible, and can be conducted face to face, online, or by phone. If you or someone you know might be interested, please reach out or share this post. Your story could help transform how care is delivered.
