IMPACT: Transforming Stem-Cell Transplant Research

The IMPACT network focuses on improving outcomes for patients undergoing stem-cell (bone marrow) transplants, which remain one of the most challenging but potentially life-saving treatments for blood cancers.

The network brings together the UK’s leading transplant centres, supported by additional partner hospitals, to run national clinical trials that would not otherwise be possible in single hospitals.

Dedicated research nurses funded through the programme ensure that patients can be recruited quickly and cared for throughout the trial process.

Already, more than 1,400 patients have been enrolled onto studies exploring how to make transplants safer, more effective, and more widely available.

The network has significantly increased the speed and scale of transplant research in the UK, providing vital evidence to improve survival rates and quality of life for patients after transplant.

By uniting expertise across the country, IMPACT has positioned the UK as a global leader in stem-cell transplant research.

IMPACT Network Trials

AMADEUS

AMADEUS is the second largest post-transplant maintenance study in AML and closed to recruitment in March 2024, with results expected in the Summer of 2025.

MoTD

MoTD has recruited over 250 patients and aims to find ways of making transplants safer by reducing the risk of complications. Our Research Nurses have been incredibly important in helping IMPACT to recruit to this study, one of the largest transplant trials ever held in the UK.
