Booths Colleague Publishes Children’s Book to Support Blood Cancer Charity
A long-serving Booths colleague from Carnforth is bringing a heartfelt family story to life, with the launch of a new children’s book set to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia.
Aldene Fort, who has worked at Booths for over 25 years, has fulfilled a lifelong dream by writing The Adventures of Mikey Monkey—a story she originally created for her children and grandchildren. Now, with the help of her son Michael, who has illustrated the book, Aldene is preparing to share Mikey’s story with a wider audience.
The book will launch in Booths stores to mark World Blood Cancer Day on 28 May, a global awareness day highlighting the importance of blood donation, research and support for those affected by blood cancer—making Mikey Monkey’s story especially meaningful.
The book follows Mikey Monkey on a journey of adventure and friendship, where he discovers his special superpower—a rare blood type that helps him save others—highlighting the life-saving impact of blood donation and support for those affected by blood cancer.
All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to Cure Leukaemia, a charity that Booths proudly supports.
Aldene said:
“This story has been part of our family for many years, something I’ve shared with my children and now my grandchildren, so it’s incredibly special to see it come to life as a book. I’ve always dreamed of writing a children’s book, and I’m so proud that Mikey’s story can now help do some good by supporting Cure Leukaemia.”
The book will launch in Booths stores to mark World Blood Cancer Day on 28 May, helping to raise both awareness and vital funds for the cause.
Nigel Murray, CEO of Booths, said:
“Aldene is a much-loved member of our team and a real example of the community spirit we’re so proud of at Booths. This is a brilliant book that not only celebrates her creativity, but also supports a cause that means a great deal to us.”
As part of the launch, Booths is planning a special in-store event in Carnforth, where Aldene will read the book to local children and families—bringing Mikey Monkey’s adventures to life in a truly memorable way.
The initiative builds on Booths’ ongoing support for Cure Leukaemia, helping to raise both funds and awareness for the charity through meaningful, community-led projects.
James McLaughlin, Chief Executive Cure Leukaemia said, “The kindness and dedication shown by the team at Booths never ceases to amaze us, and Aldene’s story is such a beautiful example of that spirit. The book is a wonderful gift that will not only bring smiles to children but will also provide vital support and hope to those affected by blood cancer.”
The Adventures of Mikey Monkey will be available in Booths stores from 28 May, with all profits from the book going to Cure Leukaemia.
