Cure Leukaemia Expanding Regional Events
We’re now working with Run For Charity, a platform that enables individuals to take part in fundraising events supporting blood cancer patients across the UK.
Every year, 4th February marks World Cancer Day, a global initiative to raise awareness, improve education, and drive action for a world without cancer. The theme for World Cancer Day 2025 is “United by Unique”. The theme emphasises the importance of an holistic, people-centred approach, ensuring that treatments are tailored to individuals rather than a one-size-fits-all model. This vision aligns closely with Cure Leukaemia’s mission to revolutionise clinical research by funding dedicated Cure Leukaemia research nurses who facilitate access to innovative treatments through clinical trials. It also highlights the critical need for The ATICUS Network, which aims to transform the treatment for children with blood cancer. Currently, many children receive repurposed therapies originally designed for adults – treatments that are often highly toxic and cause severe side effects. This directly ties into the “United by Unique” theme, reinforcing the need to develop child-specific treatments rather than relying on adult therapies, which will reduce toxicity and hopefully improve outcomes for young patients.
A Blood Cancer Diagnosis Every 27 Seconds
With a new blood cancer diagnosis every 27 seconds worldwide, the need for new treatments and accessible clinical trials has never been greater. While Cure Leukaemia is based in the UK, its impact extends far beyond, contributing to global advancements in blood cancer research.
Expanding Clinical Research and a Global Fundraising Effort
This year, Cure Leukaemia has seen an increase in global participation, with fundraisers from 25 different countries, including the USA, Mexico, New Zealand, Abu Dhabi, Australia, Singapore, and many more. These participants, whether patients, healthcare professionals, or family members/friends of those affected, are united in their mission to advance blood cancer research. Their involvement shows the global need for clinical trials to advance treatments worldwide.
As we recognise World Cancer Day 2025, Cure Leukaemia remains committed to advancing clinical research, fostering international collaborations, and striving towards a world without blood cancer. Through continued support, research, and global fundraising efforts, we are getting closer to a future where every patient has access to the treatments they need.
