Hospitality Manager for KPMG’s Birmingham office, Andries Coetzee is cycling 250 miles over two days in June to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. The 32-year-old from Walsall will cycle from Wolverhampton to Aberdovey on Friday 15th June and back again on Sunday. He’s part of a team of 8 who are all raising funds for the charity.
Andries, who grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, has worked for KPMG for two years and was involved in organising Cure Leukaemia’s £1m Centre Appeal launch which was held at the firm’s Birmingham office in January 2017. A talented sportsman when he was younger, injury meant he had to give up rugby before he turned to cage fighting. However, he has now settled on cycling as his main sport and he is really looking forward to the event.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to the Aberdovey ride. It is certainly going to be a challenge, but I’ve heard the scenery is stunning in places so I’m excited to take part. I’ve very nearly reached my fundraising target already so I hope I can raise as much as possible for this fantastic charity.”
Andries visited the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in May with colleagues Karl Edge and Sue Patrick to see how KPMG’s support has made such an impact on patients treated there.
He continued: “it was fascinating to meet Professor Craddock and see how funds raised for Cure Leukaemia continue to make such a lifesaving impact. I know a number of colleagues here at KPMG have been personally affected by blood cancer so I’m pleased to be able to play my part.”
Andries has already raised over £300 and he hopes to go well beyond his £350 target:
“I hope people will help me raise as much as possible because this charity is making a real, tangible and lifesaving difference to people battling blood cancer and we at KPMG Birmingham should be acutely aware of that.”
