Last week, we were joined by over 100 Cure Leukaemia fundraisers to celebrate 2022, and to recognise our 2022 Christmas Award Winners for the first time in THREE years.

Women’s European Championships and Commonwealth Games host Adam Joyce was the man on the mic for the afternoon as he kept the crowd entertained and named our award winners alongside Cure Leukaemia Chairman Geoff Cousins with seven award winners named on the day with nine Special Recognition Awards.

Throughout the afternoon, Award Nominee (and winner!) Andrea Childs was also on hand selling sunflower seeds in memory of her daughter Beth Childs, and Andrea managed to raise an incredible £175 from just one afternoon.

Andrea has been selling sunflower seeds since the summer, and has been raising funds in honour of her daughter Beth who sadly passed away from leukaemia, and all of the other parents and children they met while Beth was receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Andrea has so far raised over £2,000 for the charity.

This year, we’ve seen some incredible fundraising efforts from so many people, from people taking part in our own organised events, our brand new Your 14 campaign, and beyond.

Here’s the full list of all our fab 2022 award winners:

– Individual Fundraiser of the Year: Jackie Fowler

– Community Fundraiser of the Year: Andrea Childs

– Team Fundraisers of the Year: Tim Clay

– Memory of the Year: Morgan Paine

– Young Fundraiser of the Year: Liv Dickson

– Your 14 Award: Team UCLH / Team Leeds

– Chairmans Award: The Tour 21 Team of 2022

– Special Recognition Awards: Team Sheffield, Team Fly High Lucie, West Midlands Combined Authority, Inchcape UK, The Dalys, Tara Pelley, Adam Hewitt, Vic El Blast, and Debbie Riley

During the awards, Morgan Paine received a second standing ovation, after receiving one one the final night of London 2 Paris hours after he led the peloton into Paris next to his Dad on Father’s Day – a real tear jerker. Morgan had received chemotherapy the day before jumping on the saddle and completing our London 2 Paris and raising over £8,000 alongside his Dad.

Cure Leukaemia Patron Geoff Thomas MBE was in attendance in a suitably festive Xmas jumper and he launched his next challenge on his bike with the announcement that he would be cycling the Tour of the TAP in Blood Cancer Awareness Month in September 2023 after taking a year off from the Tour de France – but stay tuned for an upcoming announcement about that!

To top the afternoon off and put us in a festive mood, we were joined by Mr and Mrs Grey, who hosted a spectacular Live Music Quiz for everyone and there was a lot of fantastic singing on display!

Mr and Mrs Grey host a Live Music Quiz, featuring the use of a live band, where guests write the answers on a table cloth! As it was our Christmas Awards, we ended the game with a special ‘Finish The Lyrics’ round, featuring some well-known festive tunes.

A huge thank you to the businesses who generously donated towards our raffle including Walsall FC, Touchwood Shopping Centre, Inchcape UK, Rudells the Jewellers, The NEC Birmingham, OGL, and The Village Hotel (Solihull).
