Told I Had 12 Days to Live – Tracy’s Battle with AML
Tracy was told she had 12 days to live without chemo. After a tough battle with AML, a stem cell transplant that saved her life. Now in remission, she shares her journey to raise awareness.
Sam is taking on an extraordinary challenge – running 25 marathons in 25 days to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. Starting on April 27th with the London Marathon and finishing on May 21st in his hometown of Hull, Sam is pushing his physical and mental limits to support life-saving research.
This mission is deeply personal. Sam’s mum has been living with leukaemia for eight years, benefiting from innovative treatments made possible by Cure Leukaemia. “Running has helped me through tough times, but this is about more than that,” says Sam. “It’s about pushing myself to the limits to raise money and awareness for a charity that gives people like my mum hope.”
The Marathon Journey
“Training is going really well, thank you! I will have completed over 300km in March, and I’m feeling fitter than ever. I’m slowly increasing the mileage each week leading up to the start date at the London Marathon.”
“I’m most excited about seeing my friends and family at the finish line on the 25th marathon. The sense of accomplishment will be extraordinary, and knowing I’ve made my family proud really means a lot. So many friends have reached out and said they’d love to run some miles with me, which will really help keep me going. Plus, the challenge finishes just a couple of days before my birthday and the May Bank Holiday weekend—so those well-earned beers afterward will be some of the best ever!”
“I don’t particularly get nervous, but my biggest concern is avoiding serious injuries, which I know is a high risk! The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will be a tough one—some of the elevation on that course is extremely challenging. I’ll be 15 marathons in by that point, well over halfway, so finishing that marathon will almost feel like I’ve reached the summit of the challenge.”
