The 'Awesome Foursome' set off to Monte Carlo!

2nd June 2017

An awesome-foursome from Redditch have set off on their unique challenges as they are set to drive more than a thousand miles to raise money for two local charities.

Redditch residents Lesley and Steve Evans and Jayne and Pete Reynolds have set off on the 2017 Monte Carlo or Bust Banger Rally in their 20 year-old Saab convertible.

The group bought the car – in compliance with the rules of the race – for less than £500, and will be driving more than 1,100 miles to Monte Carlo to raise money for the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation (CCSHF) and the Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund.

As well as getting people to sponsor their daring drive, the team have been covering the car in heart-shaped stickers with messages and logos of those people and businesses sponsoring them.

In preparation for the trip – and to raise even more money for their chosen charities – the friends also organised a live music and hog roast night at Studley Road Social Club during May! They have already raised over £2,300 and the total looks set to continue to rise!

Lesley said: “We’ve never done anything quite like this before and as this year is Pete’s 50th birthday, we thought we should take the plunge.

“Both the charities are very close to our hearts and we want to raise as much as we can.”

The rally, held from June 1, challenges entrants to drive to Monte Carlo through France, Switzerland and Italy, all for charity and along the way taking part in activities competing for points and prizes.

The three-day crusade will see more than 100 British bangers visit Europe to experience roads with backdrops of sun, sea, sand and snow.

Everyone at Cure Leukaemia wishes you the best of luck!
