Friends of Dr Salim Shafeek are continuing to show their support for him and fundraise for Cure Leukaemia with two concerts taking place on August 31st and September 1st.
Dr Stuart King and his wife June are staging the open-air events in Worcester marking the start of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, following the ‘Rowan’s Ramble’ walk by Dr Shafeek’s colleagues which raised £12,000 back in May.
Dr Shafeek, Director of Haematology and Oncology at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, was diagnosed with myeloma earlier this year, but is thankfully now in remission.
The Kings have known the Shafeek family for 15 years, since the two doctors were both made Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians back in 2004.
“Our families have remained very close and we meet up regularly,” says June.
“Whilst Stuart was in general practice he had a number of patients under Dr Shafeek’s care, and all spoke very highly of him with many saying he went beyond the call of duty.
“He is an absolutely superb physician and is highly respected throughout the medical profession.
“When we heard the news of Dr Shafeek’s illness, we were devastated, and wanted to mark our respect for him by holding a summer concert to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia.”
The concerts include music from Shulah Oliver, the Twangers String Band (Sunday only) and will be compered by Muff Murfin.
Other musicians will be announced in due course.
