So once again the time has come to update my blog and keep you all informed of the inner goings on of the Cure Leukaemia office. The last couple of weeks have certainly seen a step up in the activity of the team as we find ourselves met with a sudden rush of major events all occurring within a very short period of time. The Bupa Great Birmingham Run is looming large on the horizon as we continue to get Team CL ready for the big day. There is also the hugely exciting issue of organising the charities 10th birthday party celebrations which will be held at Villa Park at the start of October. We’re all looking forward to the night which will include food from celebrity chef patron Glynn Purnell and will be a great opportunity to celebrate the work of the charity over the last decade and show our gratitude to some of our most long serving supporters. The third event is our city corporate challenge which we are organising to raise funds and awareness for Alex Bland and Harry Martin-Dreyer who are rowing across the Atlantic from The Canary Islands to Barbados. This is quite simply an insane challenge which will involve the lads rowing 24 hours a day for 3000 miles with absolutely no extra support apart from what they have with them on the boat. The boys are aiming to raise £100 000 with half of that going to the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation and the other half coming to Cure Leukaemia. If you’d like to know more about the challenge then have a look at their website, http://rowing4research.com/
With all three of these events approaching the office is keeping very busy but I’m still finding the time to get outside and get ready for the half marathon. To be honest I fell off the horse last week after a group of friends came to Birmingham for the weekend but it hasn’t knocked my fitness too much and I managed my first 10k run the other night... only another 13k to go then!
