The CL Family out in force for curry night fun!

Donna Alos

Host for the evening Donna Alos blogs about the Annual Cure Leukaemia Curry Night held at Aston Villa FC sponsored by Elonex Outdoor Media.

Wow what an inspirational night! Once again the support for Cure Leukaemia was very visible as we hosted our annual curry night in the Trinity Road Suite at Villa Park.

It was great to be in a room with so many supporters – people like John Riley whose wife Deborah was treated by Professor Charlie Craddock. The whole family (image right) were out to support the charity and tell us about their fundraising success and the upcoming London 2 Paris: Inspiring the Revolution ride which John is taking part in … Not sure the training is underway just yet though..!

It was also great to see so many of our corporate supporters in the room too. Companies such as Deloitte, KPMG, Brindleyplace and Elonex Outdoor Media to name a few.  Companies which all recognise the great work Professor Charlie Craddock and his team are doing at the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and across the West Midlands. It was also lovely to have many of the clinical staff from the Centre in the room as well.

Cure Leukaemia Patron Geoff Thomas spoke about his inspirational story and his plan to raise £1 million through his two cycling events this year, London 2 Paris and Le Tour - One Day Ahead. Both events have secured amazing support and we are very excited about really getting behind those who have signed up and endeavoured to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. It was great that some of the L2P cycling teams were around at the curry night, and chef Hayden Groves who is joining Geoff for Le Tour in July - I managed to wish most of them a lot of luck!

It was also a good opportunity to chat about some of the very entertaining events coming up. Do you fancy getting a team together for the Dragonboat Festival at Brindleyplace on May 30th? Or how about getting your brand new trainers a bit dirty for the Morrisons Great Birmingham 10k on May 3rd?  If you would rather watch sport, the Club Legends Cup is back on July 11th too at the Barclaycard Arena. Lots of fun events to get involved in!

Or, for the food lovers out there - how about booking your place for Glynn Purnell's Friday Night Kitchen on October 2nd? This year the Yummy Brummie will be joined by Masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace and other friends for another delicious and fun-filled evening at Villa Park's Holte Suite. To book your table email Jackie@FridayNightKitchen.co.uk.

The fight against leukaemia continues.  The curry night was the perfect opportunity to chat about the exciting events ahead and to hear inspirational stories too.  It’s going to be a lot of fun over the next few months as we all get together to raise crucial funds – fancy joining us?

See you soon, Donna
