A magical month to remember!

Joe White

Ever since my first day back in January, we as a team have been eagerly awaiting the month of October for two huge events...and here we are, Friday 25th October reflecting back on one of the most inspiring months the charity has ever had!

On Friday 4th October, months of planning and hours of preparation paid off when we held our 10th Anniversary Celebrat10n at the Holte Suite, Villa Park where almost 400 guests of Cure Leukaemia gathered to celebrate our very special Birthday! Hosted by Adrian Chiles and attended by the likes of Jonathan Trott, Ashley Giles, Neil Rami & Professor Charlie Craddock we heard stories from former patients, our specialist nurses and most inspirationally, families of former patients who have sadly lost their battle with the terrible disease...it was a truly special evening.

The food, served by Aston Villa Executive Chef Pete Reed & overseen by Glynn Purnell’s culinary excellence, revolved around a Birmingham theme to highlight the importance of Cure Leukaemia across this hugely diverse region.

A night to remember was followed by a day to remember, as last Sunday amongst 20,000 runners, 455 amazing people lined up to run in red & white for Cure Leukaemia in the BUPA Great Birmingham Run.

I was lucky enough to be one of these 455 runners and after a few sleepless nights beforehand, 1 hour and 43 minutes later I crossed the finish line on Broad Street, immensely proud of not only my own achievements but especially of those who helped us £100,000...an amazing amount of money that WILL help save lives!

A well deserved pint (or four...) followed, when Team Cure Leukaemia met up in the Brasshouse post race and it was great to celebrate a very special day with a very special team. A team who I finally got to meet after months of emails back and forth!

Sunday was an amazing day for Cure Leukaemia but we were back in work on Monday to go again as you must remember that there is still a lot more work to be done and a long way to go in helping to find the cure for leukaemia. To raise £100,000 really was fantastic but what we must now work towards is to not just repeat this achievement but actually exceed this figure again next year...so be braced for more emails from me willing you to sign up and support us again in 2014!
