Haematology Research Nurse

Role and Responsibilities

I joined the haematology research team at the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham in February 2011 – for the second time! I originally worked for Cure Leukaemia 2008-2009, and loved it so much I came back. I am responsible for the lymphoid trials, but also cross cover the myeloid studies with Julie. My post is fully funded by Cure Leukaemia.

Background and Experience

Since I qualified in 2001, I have worked in a variety of areas including Liver Surgery, Oncology, Haematology and Clinical trials covering all specialities.

I worked on the Haematology/BMT ward for four and a half years before leaving to pursue Research within the Wellcome Trust. After 18 months I was missing Haematology and decided I needed to return to what I know best. I have also worked for the CLRN as a senior nurse, this role involved travelling around the region (West Midlands South) setting up studies across all specialities within the trusts and assisting PI’s getting research nurses and equipment needed for them to recruit to NCRI studies.

I was also involved in training new research nurses as well as experienced nurses in all aspects of trial management. Since returning to the QE as Haematology research nurse for the second time I feel that all my previous roles have come together to provide me with a wide skill and knowledge base in order to perform this job to the very highest standard that the patients deserve.
