THE 2008 CURE LEUKAEMIA RUN

RESULTS!!
    
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham welcomed a huge crowd of runners and supporters to this year’s Cure Leukaemia Run which took place last Sunday in Sutton Park. Over 1200 runners turned out to take part in either the 10k Race, the 5k Fun Run or the 1k Children’s Squirrel Run for the under 8’s.  
 
Tom Hogan won the 10k race with a time of 33 minutes 20 seconds with Ian Mansell and Stuart Boon coming in 2nd and 3rd. The first female home was Tessa Parkinson with a time of 39 minutes and 2 seconds.

The 5k was won by Jamie Johnson with a time of 17 minutes and 26 seconds with Ian Mansell and Frederick Tremblay coming in 2nd and 3rd, making it 2 second places for Ian Mansell who went from the 10k race into the 5k. Naomi Eaton with a time of 22 minutes and 19 seconds was the first female home.

The 1k Children’s Squirrel Run saw over 100 children take to the start area some on their own and some running with family members. The first boy home was Eddie Roberts and the first girl Jasmine Skip.
                  
                    
Team category prizes included the McNaughton Family winning the Family Team Prize. Tom’s Terriers won the 10k Challenge Team Prize and At Home Fitness the 5k Challenge.
              
Runners from the age of 2 to 79 took part and even some leprechauns, Scooby Doo and a cat were spotted. Warwickshire Elite Coach Dougie Brown started the races as well as running in the 10k along with Opera trio Elysium.

With live music from Tamworth band Outluck and David Elliot keeping the crowd informed (as well as entertained) all made for a great morning.
 
It is hoped that the event will bring in around £30,000 for Cure Leukaemia which supports the Leukaemia Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
